Meteorit | Železný | Agoudal - Imilchil | 5-10 g

Product detailed description
The well-known Agoudal iron meteorite (sometimes also referred to as Imilchil) is probably the remnant of an asteroid over 100 metres in diameter, which broke into two pieces upon entering the Earth’s atmosphere. This rare phenomenon led to the formation of two craters along the trajectory of the fireball. The presence of meteorite samples in the Soltan sediments and the age of the bed of Lake Isli date this event to approximately 35,000 to 40,000 years ago.
The first pieces of the meteorite were discovered by nomads in the High Atlas around the year 2000, but it was not identified as a rare iron meteorite until 2011 by a dealer in Errich. A subsequent search using metal detectors in 2012 uncovered hundreds of smaller fragments, as well as a record-breaking 60-kilogram piece hidden half a metre underground. Over 100 kg of material was found.
The internal structure of this iron meteorite consists of irregular grains of kamacite without the Widmanstätten pattern, but with abundant schreibersite crystals and troilite nodules. Many pieces bear traces of extreme thermal shock, internal stress and partial recrystallisation, whilst the smaller, bullet-shaped aerodynamic fragments also feature a distinct fusion crust from their passage through the atmosphere.
We currently have several of these 5-10 gram pieces, so the picture is illustrative. Upon request, we will be happy to send you a photo of the specific piece you are ordering. It is possible to choose a specific piece.
The price of the meteorite includes a box and a certificate of authenticity.
