Erg Chech 002 - - Lava older than the Earth
Space magma older than Earth
Today we know many types of meteorites. Stone or iron. From Mars, the Moon or the edge of our solar system. Some are quite common, others quite unique. One such meteorite is Erg Chech 002. This meteorite, or rather the rock from which it comes, was formed by volcanic activity. This already makes it a rare specimen, but it only earned its uniqueness by determining its age. This (originally) magma was erupted some 23 million years before our planet was formed. This makes it one of the oldest materials in our solar system that you can touch. And what's more, it has beautiful, translucent pyroxene crystals. You can learn more about this meteorite in our blog post.
Available pieces
The unique structure of the Erg Chech meteorite is clearly visible even in small pieces, where dark green pyroxene crystals flash through the already diverse rock. In our e-shop we have several pieces weighing around one gram.
